Recently, while shopping at a thrift store (during their half off day), I found a cute dress marked $6.00. I went to try it on and it just didn't fit quite right, but since it was half off of $6.00, I couldn't resist. I told myself that I must alter this one, I have way to many things that need some sort of alteration and didn't need yet another. Here is the before image:
In this picture I have it pinned at the shoulders and sideseams, showing what i needed to do to make it fit correctly. Again the length of the bodice was to long for my short torso and the bust was a tiny bit to large. Looking at the intense alterations I was in for, I decided to change the neckline and armholes totally. They felt a bit matronly anyhow. So here is what I did:
1. Take out the center back zipper.
2. Cut off the sleeves and reshape the neckline.
3. Shorten the bodice at the shoulders and take in the sideseam at the bust lines, as I had pinned.
4. Bind off the neckline and armholes.
5. Sew the zipper back in and hand sew a hook and eye at the top.
TAADAAA, here is the final product:
Sorry about the image quality and color, I took the picture at night and had no natural light.
I got to wear this little number to this show on Saturday (4/14/07), they had this special guest singing with them, that was some fun and fantastic music!
